Woolen Palazzo

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, palazzo pants for women first gained popularity as a fashion item. The look was evocative of the wide-legged, cuffed pants popular among some avant-garde-fashion-loving ladies in the 1930s and 1940s, especially actresses like Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich. Some posh restaurants refused to let women wear trousers in the 1960s because the owners thought it was unseemly for women to be dressed in pants.
